Cisti Source Discontinued - August 2009

As some of you may have heard, the federal government is discontinuing CISTI Source as of this August. Our current contract for CISTI Source expires today and it doesn't make sense to continue on with CISTI Source for a few more months until the end.

"The Federal Government is discontinuing CISTI Source as of August 2009.

Because of better interlibrary loan coverage and tools such as SFX, use of CISTI Source at the University of Calgary has declined dramatically since 2003. The Library decided not to renew our contract after March 31, 2009 for the last few months of CISTI Source’s existence. Please use the interlibrary loan form to request the scientific, medical and technical articles that you used to request with CISTI Source :

Biology Librarian in Science B (Gallagher Library) for Drop-In Help

Search multiple databases at one time-360 Search

The library is implementing a one-year trial of 360 Search a search engine-database that allows you to search multiple databases at one time. Select your subject category, enter your search terms and wait for your results.

Biosis Previews - BIOSIS Previews combines the content of both Biological Abstracts and Biological Abstracts/RRM (Reports, Reviews, Meetings), thus providing comprehensive coverage of nearly 5,500 life science journals as well as 1,500 items from international meetings, review articles, books, book chapters, patents, and software reviews.
Compendex - Comprehensive interdisciplinary engineering database covering journal articles, technical reports, and conference papers and proceedings over the entire spectrum of engineering.
IEEE Electronic Library Online - Access to IEEE transactions, journals, magazines and conference proceedings, to IEE journals and conference proceedings, and to current IEEE standards.
Web of Science - References in all subject areas from Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index and Arts and Humanities Citation Index

Web of Science content expanded from 1900 to present

The library has enhanced access to the Web of Science database by expanding its science content from 1900 to present. Previously, science content was only available from 1975.
Web of Science also provides content from the Social Science Index from 1956 and the Arts & Humanities Index from 1975.
Web of Science provides access to nearly 9,300 prestigious, high impact research journals in the world and is the primary tool for determining how many times an author has been cited in the literature.

New Features in Science Direct--RSS and link to Scopus

Science Direct (Elsevier) has added some new features to makes your searching even easier.

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds - RSS is an established Web standard for the delivery of news headlines and other frequently updated content summaries. RSS feeds will be available on ScienceDirect for search results, citations and new articles, as well as more than 300 pre-selected topics. RSS feeds alert users immediately when Science Direct has new content of interest to them as soon as it is published, keeping users up-to-date with their chosen fields of interest.

Cited By in Scopus - Access to a wealth of citation information is made possible with Cited By in Scopus, which links to specific citations in Scopus - the largest abstract and citation database of research literature and quality Web sources. Cited By in Scopus, which is included on the ScienceDirect article pages, also features a real-time citation count. A Scopus license is not necessary to view the citations for a given article but a ScienceDirect subscription is required.
